Rev. Dr. Wade Powell grew up in the middle of a cotton field in West Texas about thirty miles southeast of San Angelo. His earliest spiritual formation began by accident in kindergarten at the local Catholic church after mistakenly getting off the school bus a little too early and following his friends to their catechism class. Because of a warm welcome there and with his mom’s OK, he ended up going to the class the rest of the year. As he grew up, Wade stayed connected to that Catholic church and also a small United Methodist Church his family attended. Throughout his life he held various leadership positions within his local church and districts.
Wade went to college at Angelo State University where he studied Communications, and then he worked in the television and finance industries. After much prayer and discernment, Wade felt God calling him to pastoral ministry. He studied at Asbury Theological Seminary where he received his Master of Divinity and then Duke University where he received his Doctorate.
Wade served at Hilda UMC, Trinity UMC, Christ Fellowship UMC in San Antonio, and First UMC Victoria before coming to Bethany. He is married to Cindy, and they have three children and two grandchildren. Wade and Cindy are excited to be in Austin and hope to see you at Bethany soon!
