There are many reasons to frame your own artwork, from saving money to having greater control over the final presentation. Join printmaker and painter Karyn Derby for a practical introduction to framing photographs, prints, and paintings on paper using affordable, readily available materials and techniques.

This class will focus on artwork that is matted and typically displayed behind glass. Participants will learn how to properly mount artwork using acid-free hinging methods that protect the piece while keeping it securely in place. Karyn will also demonstrate the correct installation of D-rings and picture wire—the preferred hanging system required by many galleries and exhibitions because it is significantly more secure than sawtooth hangers and other common frame hardware.

In addition to demonstrations, participants will have an opportunity to practice installing D-rings and picture wire themselves. The class will also cover essential framing tools, appropriate hanging wire, where to purchase framing supplies, and how to select suitable ready-made frames for artwork.

Whether you're preparing work for an exhibition, framing artwork for sale, or simply looking to hang your art in your home, this class will provide practical skills you can use right away.
