House of Friends is a weekly respite program designed for individuals in the early stages of memory loss. It provides engaging activities and a much-needed break for their family caregivers. Participants can enjoy social interactions, singing, gentle exercise, themed programs, spiritual enrichment, and fun activities, all designed to build friendships and lift spirits. This program operates under Bethany, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and is offered at no cost as a gift to our community.
Position Summary:
The Director provides leadership for the House of Friends respite ministry by overseeing program operations, cultivating volunteers and community partnerships, and developing financial sustainability through grants and fundraising. The Director ensures a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for participants living with memory loss while supporting their caregivers.
Core Responsibilities:
Program Leadership
- Plan and oversee weekly House of Friends sessions.
- Design engaging activities appropriate for individuals with memory loss.
- Ensure participant safety and appropriate care.
- Maintain participant records and family communication.
- Provide caregiver support and personal connection.
volunteer leadership
- Recruit and train volunteers.
- Schedule volunteer teams for program days.
- Provide orientation for volunteers working with dementia participants.
- Foster a culture of compassion and hospitality.
Community Partnerships & Outreach
- Build and maintain relationships with memory care professionals, churches, and community organizations.
- Promote House of Friends to families who may benefit.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with nursing, social work, and gerontology programs.
- Represent the program in the community.
Financial Sustainability
- Identify, apply, and manage grants.
- Coordinate fundraising efforts.
- Develop community sponsorships.
- Work with the volunteer advisory board to strengthen financial support.
Administration
- Develop annual program goals.
- Prepare an annual budget.
- Provide periodic reports for church leadership.
- Track participation and program outcomes.
Recommended Qualifications:
Required
- Experience working with older adults and/or individuals with dementia.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to recruit and lead volunteers.
- Commitment to the mission of Bethany United Methodist Church.
Preferred
- Experience with grant writing or nonprofit fundraising.
- Background in social work, nursing, gerontology, or caregiving.
- Experience coordinating volunteers or community programs.
