Co-Director of Bethany School

Job Summary:

We are seeking someone who loves Jesus and has a heart for early childhood aged students. This full-time position administers the day-to-day operation of Bethany School in compliance with the Minimum Standards set forth by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.  Lead and supervise the school staff to provide a safe, caring environment that nurtures and stimulates children spiritually, physically, intellectually, and emotionally.

Principal Responsibilities:
Licensing:
  • Maintain state licensing standards for program, staff, and facility.
  • Work in cooperation with facility personnel and trustees to assure that facility is safe and secure.
  • Schedule regular emergency drills/keep records for state licensing.
  • Check licensing portal to stay up to date.
  • Maintain FBI fingerprints.
Staff:
  • Provide day-to-day supervision/support for Bethany Preschool staff.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire new staff; conduct new staff training.
  • Facilitate annual staff reviews.
  • Maintain ratios, assigning staff and children to classes.
  • Conduct periodic classroom observations.
  • Help staff with parent conferences if needed due to concerns or questions.
  • Organize in-service trainings.
  • Maintain personnel files.
  • Maintain daily attendance.
  • Hold monthly staff meetings.
  • Create staff calendar.
  • Maintain updated staff handbook.
  • Arrange for teacher substitutes when staff is absent.
Enrollment:
  • Oversee Registration of enrolled children, BUMC members, and new families in January/February for classes for the following year.
  • Prepare school calendar and get approval from School Board in January.
  • Revise and update enrollment and health forms as needed.
  • Maintain updated parent handbook.
  • Conduct school tours and orientation for prospective enrollees as needed.
  • Maintain and update children and staff in database. This includes vaccination records and medical records for all children.
Finances:
  • Develop the annual budget; set tuition rates, and submit to the school board for approval.
  • Manage the operating budget on a daily basis.
  • Prepare payroll two times a month.
  • Verify all bank deposits out of Procare and make all deposits.
  • Review scholarship applications and provide financial help as needed when possible and approved by board.
  • Pull paperwork for closing of the books on July 31st each year as directed by Bookkeeper.
  • Manage billing and collection tuition payments and follow up on delinquent payments.
  • Meet with Bookkeeper monthly to review finances.
  • Work with 3rd party to review books and audit if needed.

PRogram:
  • Maintain welcoming atmosphere in the front office.
  • Answer phones and take messages if needed.
  • Help take care of sick children until parents arrive.
  • Oversee curriculum development and lesson planning.
  • Work with the Director of Children’s Ministry to ensure that children are provided with a quality chapel and lead chapel half of the time.
  • Work with children in program as needed with behavior issues following Bethany Preschool’s discipline policy.
  • Make sure all policy changes are approved by the board and posted to teachers and parents.
  • Create monthly newsletters.
  • Keep congregation and current families updated of school events.
  • Invite families to become a worshipping part of BUMC.
  • Oversee staff, curriculum, and details for after-school enrichment program.
  • Oversee staff, curriculum, and details for summer school program.
  • Attend community events and training to benefit teachers and program.
  • Launch a parent involvement committee.
  • Complete training hours as required by Texas Licensing
Required/Preferred Minimum Qualifications:
  • It is preferred that a Co-Director of the school be a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree and meet the education standards as outlined by the state in “The Minimum Standards Rules for Licensed Child Care Centers”.
  • Have special training in Early Childhood education
  • Be a Christian growing in faith
  • Strong administrative and executive function skills
Relationship to Bethany UMC:
  • Meet monthly with Director of Kids Ministry
  • Attend monthly full staff meetings
  • Attend Administrative Board Meetings (quarterly)
