The states are starting to slowly open up parts of America … people across the globe have been forced to adapt quickly to social distancing. While the world might be eager for a relaxation of the rules, the restrictions might be around for some time to come. The lockdown restrictions to ‘shelter at home’ are likely to be easier than the new norm we are facing.
Across the 50 states there is not a standard model, or certain requirements for practice. The neurological shift will take time and each individual will have their own unique experience. There are many questions about our new normal i.e. the rules, restrictions, best practices, etc. Are you ready to perform the new measures?
Some people are experiencing hope, other people report anxiety and fear. If you feel that you are still adjusting, or think that this situation is temporary, I encourage you to find what you need to get comfortable. Seek out any part of you that is saying or treating this situation as “just temporary” or “over soon.” Ask what is it that you need to turn towards the new normal.
The brain’s primary purpose is to keep our species alive and with that keep us physically and socially safe. We live our life in an existence of behaviors, rituals and patterns that we repeat autonomically, with the desire to continue with the status quo. As such, individuals struggle with change.
The coronavirus has threatened the brain’s sense of safety socially and in community. Nonetheless, the brain will adjust to a new normal, developing a new sense of safety based on the new guidelines and rules for being social and in community.
