Job Summary:
The Communication Specialist will be responsible for working with the pastors, ministry leaders, and outside marketing resources to plan, implement, and manage the communications strategy to reach new people in our community and to inform and drive engagement in church activities with existing membership. This role will coordinate multiple channels - web, social media, direct, and print - to address the needs of an active church that includes all age groups.
The ideal candidate is a spiritually-centered Christian with a loving and servant leadership spirit who leverages concise, clear and creative communications to reach a variety of audiences. He or she will maximize communications best practices and leverage modern technology to connect the stories of Bethany with our members, visitors, and the broader community.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with pastors and ministry leaders to establish and drive a prioritized, multi-channel communications strategy
- Track communications and engagement to make data-driven decisions for continuous improvement
- Participate in Ministry Staff meetings to understand all church activities and proactively identify the communications program components to effectively hit the targeted audience
- Provide communications support for weekly services, events and ministries
- Partner with ministry leaders to plan, prioritize, and create communications plans to mobilize their specific audiences to engage in program initiatives
- Maintain brand consistency, including style of writing, imagery to be used, naming conventions
- Due to many church related functions on weekends, some weekend work will be required, however, this should be an infrequent occurrence
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- A personal relationship with Jesus Christ
- Ability to communicate programs in creative ways to evoke engagement
Understanding of brand management - Understanding of copywriting, graphic design, layout, and publishing
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
- Demonstrated knowledge with comm technologies – Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc.
- Excellent relational and team player skills with ability to drive consensus and help set priorities
- Self-motivated with great work ethic
- Action-oriented, displaying focus, passion and initiative
- Proven ability to complete projects with excellent task execution and project management
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Canva preferred
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or relevant practical experience is required
- 5-plus years of communications or marketing experience in a similar role preferred
- Church staff or lay leadership experience is a plus
