Specials

How Do Specials Come Into Play on an Average Day?

We feel that our specials complement and enhance core subject areas. These classes offer students an opportunity to become even more engaged in learning and to go beyond the daily classroom experience. The PreK3s and PreK4s transition to our movement, music, and science lab and our younger students have those teachers enter their classrooms.

What Specials Are Offered at Bethany School?

MUSIC

Our students enjoy music class once a week. Our music teacher works with our teachers to sing songs that reinforce what they are learning in the classroom. Music helps the body and mind work together. They also get to dance and use musical instruments. Dancing helps to develop motor skills and encourages self-expression.

SCIENCE

Our science program is taught through exploration and discussion and lets our students know that science is a part of their daily lives, and they love it! We encourage them to ask questions and provide them with opportunities for hands-on inquiry.

LIBRARY

We have a librarian that offers a weekly time slot for our classes to come to our newly built library space for story time. The time spent reading fosters critical and creative thinking skills. Our hope to create a love for reading that extends beyond Bethany Preschool.

MOVEMENT

The primary goal of movement at is to develop knowledge, skills, and confidence to help them enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. Our students work on their balance, gross motor skills, and body awareness through a variety of games.

EXPORATION

At least once a week our children visit the exploration area for unstructured, imaginative playtime. Imaginative play provides opportunities for children to make sense of the world around them as they role-play different real-world experiences. Their social and emotional development and language skills blossom as we encourage their independence, creativity and problem-solving through rich, thematic play experiences. Some play areas of our exploration room are constant, such as building and art, while other areas change periodically to allow for a variety of play experiences, such as a farmers' market or a veterinarian office.

CHAPEL

Our students attend weekly chapel where we help them to grow in their faith by sharing God’s love and teach them about Jesus. We sing songs, celebrate birthdays, pray and study child-appropriate curriculum centered on the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
