Prayer Service Opportunites

At Bethany we seek to undergird all we do with prayer as we pray for our leadership, our congregation, our ministries and activities, and for those beyond our walls in the community and around the world. Bethany has a wonderful prayer ministry which provides many opportunities for you to learn more about prayer, participate in a prayer group, or pray alone where ever you are. We invite you to join us in providing a foundation of prayer as you deepen your relationship with God.

Pray in Groups
Intercessory Prayer Teams
Contact: Jill Saufferer, 512-258-7789

Pray with others for the purple-edged prayer request cards, Bethany website prayer requests, and calls for prayer to the Bethany office.  Join one of our Intercessory Prayer Groups - Tuesday mornings, 8-9:15 or Thursdays, 10-11:15 (D-307).  You don't have to pray out loud!  All you need is the willingness to agree in prayer (silently or out loud) and the ability to keep all requests confidential.  It's best if you can come on time so as not to interrupt the group while praying.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
Contact: Sylvia Morrison, 512-250-2450

Combines knitting/crocheting with praying for others!  Meet to knit/crochet shawls for folks experiencing difficult times, such as illness or life crisis.  Come to enjoy fellowship and prayer as we work.  Or contribute by making shawls and praying at home. Finished shawls are blessed by the group and then given to those in need of God's grace.  Just come to the Prayer Room (D-307):

  • Tuesdays, 7:00 - 8:30 PM
  • Thursday afternoons, 1:00-2:30 PM

Just show up ready to knit or crochet.  You don't have to pray out loud!   If you don't know how to knit/crochet, come anyway!  We can teach and yarn has been donated!

Alpha Prayer

Receive prayer requests from staff & team to pray for all participating in Alpha, praying at home - or pray with the team at Bethany on Sunday afternoon.

Many of these prayer opportunities have started because someone had an idea or a "nudge" from God.  Is there some type or subject of prayer you are interested in that you do not see listed here?  Or are you interested in an expansion of one of the groups (an evening intercessory team, for example)?  Contact us with ideas or suggestions!

Prayer Alone
Prayer e-Group
Contact:  Carolyn Bawcom, 512-258-6017

Pray from home or work for timely concerns by joining a Bethany Yahoo email group to send and receive prayer requests.  This group has two purposes: to mobilize a large group of people to quickly pray for NON-confidential requests and to give a forum for others to share NON-confidential prayer needs.  All you need is email and a willingness to lift others before God when a request comes to you!   Send a blank e-mail to: - Yahoo will reply with a message that says you have been enrolled - if you "reply send" to that you will be enrolled!  You will use a different email address to send in requests:    Requests to pray may come in only once a week or several a day.

Pray at Home Participant

Pray for the Church
Contact: Sandy Kilgore, 512-331-1130

All we do at Bethany is covered in prayer!  On one Friday or Saturday a month, prayer-walk inside the church buildings.  It generally takes 30-45 minutes to walk through all the buildings and prayer suggestions are provided.  Commit to one weekend a month.  No training necessary and prayer guides are provided.   If it is difficult for you to walk, you can sit in Prayer Room, The Cornerstone, or Grimes Chapel and pray from there!

Prayer Time in the Upper Room
Contact: Jill Saufferer, 512-258-7789

Come to the Bethany Prayer Room (D307) by yourself to pray for individuals, our church, and the world!  Or meditate, praise God, or simply sit in silence.    The room is organized for you to pray at stations that give many suggestions for prayer but there are other ways to pray there.   Commit to a specific half-hour or hour weekly for 4 months.  We will give orientation and ideas of ways to pray.   Times are available days & evenings.

Family Prayer Team
Contact: Rick Markle, 512-335-4325

Pray for one Bethany family daily (usually about 25 families per Pray-er). We provide you with a list of families, and a Prayer Guide to assist you.  Each individual gets their own list of families, or a couple may choose to share a list and pray together for those families.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:4-7
