Following Jesus: The Sunday School Connection

Jesus said “Follow Me”... Sunday School leads and encourages us onward in “Follow me."

Jesus said, “Follow me.” To follow Jesus, I must learn to be more like him each and every day, week, month, and year. I must learn to speak the way he speaks to people. Trust in the Father the way he trusts in the Father. Worship Jehovah the way he worships Jehovah. Pray the way he prays. Know the Scriptures the way he knows the Scriptures. Live the way he lives. Sunday School embodies all these elements.

My name is Neil McCulloch, and I have the privilege of leading the Potter’s Wheel Sunday School class, which meets during the 11:00 hour on Sunday mornings, now on Zoom.

The value of Sunday School comes not from any one thing, but from all these things in a blessed mix. In class, we study Scripture to find what it really means, not what we think we hear. We worship with our actions, in ways we can only do together. We challenge ourselves and each other in a safe, supportive environment born out of our love for Jesus and one another. We build relationships in our class, which take time, as does honesty with ourselves and others.

When tragedy struck our family with the early morning notification of the death of our sweet daughter, MacKenzie, it was Potter’s Wheel who was there for us ~ first, last, and always. We have studied in the Book of Acts what it means to be Church, and our class has been that for our family. These friends cry with us, work with us, read the Bible with us, teach us, pray with us, and pray for us.

Sunday School leads and encourages us onward in “Follow me.”
