Why Join a Church?
Christians were never designed to follow God on their own, but as part of a community. We welcome everyone who wants to worship with us without conditions, and we welcome continuing visitors. However, we encourage Christians to connect to Christ’s Church in way that allows them to be cared for pastorally, worship with a genuine community, grow as disciples, and be equipped for serving in God’s Kingdom locally and across the globe. We call this commitment membership, but the purpose is for you to commit to the Church and for the church to commit to you, so that God’s purposes can be accomplished.
However, we encourage Christians to connect to Christ’s Church in a way that allows you to be cared for pastorally, worship with a genuine community.
How to Join Bethany UMC
For our membership process, we ask that you come to a Connection Celebration where you will learn more about our church, learn about Wesleyan history, meet the pastors and key ministry staff, and join if you’re ready. We will also explain our commitment to Worship + 3 (worship, discipleship, service and generosity) and encourage you to join in that commitment. Membership connectors will be available to guide you in that process and offer information about various ministry areas.
We have a membership ceremony for those who wish to join the church, including an opportunity to be baptized if you are not already. Baptism is the only requirement for membership. There is a brief coffee and cookie break before the membership ceremony to allow those who do not wish to join at this time to leave, and continue to discern where God is calling them.
4:00 - 6:00 PM - Grimes Chapel
* These dates are shorter versions, and take place at Noon in the Chapel (primarily for those who cannot attend afternoon functions).
CHILDCARE is available for children 5th grade and younger, by reservation. Please reserve childcare when you RSVP to attend, preferably at least one week in advance. Childcare is located in the Fellowship Hall in F108. Please let us know the names and ages of your children.
Our prayer is that we can help you Experience God's Love, Know Jesus Christ, and Grow in His Image through our community of faith at Bethany.
