Carnegie Hall Performance

Chancel Choir to Sing at Carnegie Hall

Since 2001, the Bethany UMC Chancel Choir has been privileged to host a “Meet the Composer” weekend bringing to our church many renown composers such as Joseph Martin, Pepper Choplin, Mary McDonald, Mark Hayes and most recently Rosephanye Powell. As a result, the Chancel Choir has developed a reputation for musical excellence.

Because of this outstanding reputation, the Chancel Choir has been invited to participate in a performance of Joseph Martin’s “Appalachian Winter” on the Distinguished Concert International New York Concert Series.  This performance will take place at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Monday, November 27, 2017.

Over 40 of our choir members will join with 160 singers from 9 other choirs to form the Distinguished Concert Singers International. Joseph Martin will lead the performance and serve as the clinician for the residency.  In addition, 16 other guests will travel with us as VIP Patrons.

The Bethany UMC Chancel Choir received this invitation because of “the quality and high level of musicianship” demonstrated by our singers.  It is quite an honor to be invited to perform at Carnegie Hall and realize we will be representing our church, our community and most importantly, our Lord.
We will spend 5 days and 4 nights in New York City in preparation for the concert. Prior to the trip, the choir will also work countless hours in rehearsal throughout the fall.  If you are interested in providing financial support to the choir for this trip, please contact Curt Olson via email.

After returning from New York City the Chancel Choir and Orchestra will present the “Appalachian Winter” for our church and community on December 16 and 17.

All of this preparation proves the old saying – “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?  Practice, Practice, Practice!”
