Status: Full-time with Full Benefits and paid technical training where applicable.
Works Closely With:    Facilities & Events Coordinator, Director of Operations & Church support staff, Bethany School Directors, ministry event coordinators and all facilities users..
Compensation: Beginning salary is commensurate with experience

Job Summary:
Provide day-to-day routine maintenance for all Bethany facilities and equipment. Diagnose problems, repairing those appropriate and calling on contractors for repairs where applicable. This maintenance includes the buildings, parking lots and grounds as well as HVAC, plumbing, kitchen and grounds equipment and vehicles. Perform modification & repair projects. This is accomplished through hands on work as well as through selected vendors. Receive direction, support and prioritization of activities from the Operations Director.

Principle Responsibilities:
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  A. Facilities Maintenance Operations

  • Maintain facilities and equipment to support the ministries and mission of the church. This includes the buildings, parking lots and grounds as well as HVAC, plumbing, kitchen and grounds equipment and vehicles
  • Plan and accomplish minor electrical/ mechanical, plumbing and carpentry projects, completing them on time
  • Diagnose problems and be on-call for emergency breakdown maintenance resolution
  • Maintain church vehicles
  • Purchase and maintain stocks of maintenance supplies
  • Operate Personal Computers for memos, records, Purchase Orders and simple spread sheets
  • Perform duties in a safe manner and promoting safety for the church and its users
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Operations Director

  B. Modifications and Repair Projects

  • Conduct special projects at the direction of the Sr. Pastor, Administrative Director, Operations Director and Trustees.
    This is accomplished through hands on work as well as through selected vendors.

  • Coordinate projects of vendors and contractors on repair or modification projects and insure their timely completion.

  • Complete assigned projects including planning, design, fabrication & installation.

  • Supervise any contract or vendors working at the church.

  • Establish and monitor policies and equipment to maintain the Safety and Security of Bethany personnel and all the members, visitors and facilities users of Bethany. Meet all state, county and city laws and ordinances applicable to the church.

  C. Heating/Ventilating and Air Conditioning Systems

  • Monitor & maintain HVAC equipment and temperature controls
  • Make the settings to meet the weekly A/C calendar
  • Oversee the PM of the units
  • Diagnose problems and perform maintenance or repair as judged best by time, skill or cost. Use vendors as needed
  • Keep records of A/C unit preventative maintenance activity, breakdown and performance problems, repair cost and overall performance
  • Work with Trustees on the A/C Replacement program

QualificationRequirements:

  • Will demonstrate a desire to serve on behalf of the ministry of Bethany UMC, the pastors, staff, volunteers and facility users through a supportive and open attitude
  • Ability to prioritize workload and to escalate situations to management.
  • Education and/or Experience: Certificates from college or technical school; or three to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, basic electrical and electronic controls, HVAC systems and controls, plumbing and carpentry.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, MSDS’s and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve problems involving several variables.
