Ministry Description:
Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) Family Promise is a network of up to 13 churches which provide homeless families a warm, clean place to sleep, hot meals, a place to bathe, wash their clothes, do homework, and feel safe.

During our host week, we will have 3-4 families staying in the Youth Lighthouse Building.  The families come to Bethany on Sunday afternoon and stay until the next Sunday morning.  They leave for work or school by 7:00 am every morning and return at 6:00 pm every evening.  The adults in the families have jobs or are job hunting, some have cars, the children are in school or day care during the day; but, for various reasons, they do not have a house or apartment.  The program allows families time to save and to find a place to live.  Most families are in the program about 55-75 days.  Our part is to provide a stable, safe and loving base for them.

Types of Volunteers Needed:
We need at least 100 volunteers to help during host week! There are a variety of tasks and opportunities available. We need people who can help with the following:

  • Host and share a meal in the evening from 5:30 – 8:00 PM
  • Prepare and convert the Sunday School rooms to family rooms and return them back to classroom settings at the end of the week. Sundays from 12:00 - 1:00 PM to prepare the rooms and 8:00 - 9:00 AM to restore the rooms
  • Stay overnight with the families from 8:00 PM - 6:00 AM. The volunteer has his or her own room
  • Bring a meal item or groceries

College and High School service hours can be provided. We encourage you to bring your children, as they are great hosts and can make anyone feel welcome and at home.
