What Does "Bethany" Mean?
"Bethany" is the name of a village near Jerusalem, where Jesus went to visit and stay with His friends: Mary, Martha and Lazarus. (In fact, "Bethany" means "house of a friend.") Bethany was where Jesus went to find support, share God's love, teach and raise Lazarus from the dead. It was both a refuge and a launching platform for His ministry. Clearly, it held a special place in His heart.
Bethany United Methodist Church was named for this village and, we believe, shares many of the same qualities. We strive to be both a place of refuge as well as a launching platform for Christ's ministry in the world. This is a community where Christ continues to share love, wisdom and new life with His friends. It is also a community through which Christ continues to bring new life to the world. We long to see people grow to become more like Christ and then share Christ's love with a hurting world.
Bethany offers an amazing array of opportunities for spiritual growth and for impacting the world with Christ's love. We welcome you to all that Christ shares in and through this community of faith. Welcome to the house of Jesus' friends.
