Dear Gus and Jackie, Rev. Deviney, Rev. Minnich, Jim, Terry and Sabrina,
Bill and I are so grateful to learn that Maua Methodist Hospital's share of the Easter offering is $3,790.19. That is such good news and comes at a time when good news is just what we need. Thank you so very much for your willingness to collect an offering for us and for the generosity of your congregation. We are thankful beyond words. Please tell the church members how much we appreciate their loving kindness and generosity. Thank them for reaching around the world in the name of Jesus Christ to care for the "least of these".
The hospital is struggling right now. We have a very dynamic CEO that is trying to help our community understand that the hospital has to have money from its patients to survive. Though we continue to admit 7 - 10 patients daily that have no money but are in critical condition, we must receive money from those who can pay. To continue to serve the poor we must have those who can pay something, pay something!
Just a quick story about 5 people that were admitted without any money last week. They were all related and were together in the morning and were served tea. They come from a very poor area. When the grandmother was fixing the tea, she picked up a container of rat poison that had been put on the table briefly by her grandson before mixing it to spray on the crops. Well, she used it for sugar in the tea. All five of the family that drank the tea came to the hospital in critical condition and were admitted immediately and given care. Three went home today and two will go home by the end of the week. We have received Ksh 2000 ($26) for the care of all five of the patients and we know that is what they have to give. Hopefully, when the next crop of maize and beans is ready they can pay more but for now they all lived and that in itself is a miracle.
