30-Hour Famine
(Used by permission)
I have been on many church trips. I have gone on Mt. Top 4 times, VBS Brownsville 3 times, 30 Hour Famine 3 or 4 times, 3 Choir Tours, done Hands On Housing, a few Midwinters, Chrysalis, many middle school mission trips, and some other high school ones as well. I don't want to brag, but I pretty much know what to expect on a mission trip. Somehow though I don't think anything could have prepared me for this last weekend at 30 Hour Famine. God gave me a chance to see the Holy Spirit work through a group of over 60 high school kids from a whole new perspective. I was the leader.
I'm Doug Nettles, the guy who now has no afro. This past weekend I starved myself to raise money and awareness for 30 Hour Famine with a whole bunch of other people and it was awesome. Last year I was privileged to help out with the planning of the Famine, but this year I got to coordinate an entire youth team to organize it. Instead of just participating I saw how much effort our youth leaders put into our missions. I saw how wonderful it is when God impacts lives! I saw how marvelous prayer is. This weekend I slept in the coldest box I have ever slept in, I was the hungriest I've ever been, I was in the biggest leadership position I've ever held, it was the hardest weekend of my life. I didn't make it though, God did. He put me on his shoulders and carried me through.
I am Doug Nettles and I am a part of the fellowship of the unashamed, I am a disciple of Jesus, He is my rock and my redeemer and He is the reason for living, breathing and eating.
